A Destination Wedding in India: Our Story!

A Destination Wedding in India

We have heard many couple’s complaining about how much they regretted their wedding ceremonies. The amount of money spent on jewellery, clothes, gifts and a ceremony ruled by traditions which the bride and groom did not relate to. Most of them did not even have a say on the venue, the ceremony, not even the guest list. Presenting the big Asian wedding concept folks!

Weddings are a huge affair in most of Asia. In India, its a Real BIG deal! A lot of fanfare and pretty much an entire township is invited to the event.Though I love the idea of commitment and the definition of love Indian culture has inculcated in us, when it comes to the wedding day, me & Vishnu wanted an Indo-Western concept.

We wanted a small & intimate ceremony, a gathering which included only the people closest to us. Most importantly, we did not want our parents to take all the financial stress that entails such an affair. It just did not seem right to us. We were both financially independent and could take care of the expenses and at least reduce the load that fell on our folks. So rather than being morose about the whole thing and regretting such a memorable day, we decided to set our plan into motion. This decision of ours was truly scandalous in our community and still continues to be.

Our idea of 150 guests were dismissed and our folks met us half way and agreed to limit invitations. We continue to hear of its repercussions, 3 years later 🙂

Coming back to the ceremony, the concept of a destination wedding in India sounded exotic. We wanted it by the beach with the sound of the splashing waves, wind and seagulls, tasting the salt in the air with sun glistening on our faces while we said our “I Do’s”… Blame it on all the romantic flicks we have seen over the years, that is what we wanted and that is exactly what we got!

Taj Green Cove Kovalam , Kerala

Kerala was the perfect backdrop to our concept of a destination wedding in India and the search for a perfect venue lead us to this fabulous sea-facing Taj property.

Nestled in the prestine beaches of Kovalam, this Indo-Balinese themed hotel was the ideal setting to what we had in mind. Planning such a personal event with emotions running high can get tricky but the Taj team made us feel at home instantly. The warm hospitality we received from the days of planning to the wedding day leaves much less to be desired. They along with our event planners ensured everything was taken care off on our special day.

Looking back, February 8th was indeed a dream come true, from the moment we arrived in decorated golf carts to say our vows by the beach to the afterparty which went on into the night with music, toasts from our dearest family and a scrumptious seafood spread complete with live cooking stations.

A day remembered fondly by us and our loved ones, we are truly eternally grateful to our determination to make a change and the wonderful family that trusted our choices and went along with the plan.

That folks, was our Destination wedding in India!

We would not have done it any other way………….
