Prague, popularly known as the heart of Europe is one of the most enchanting and romantic cities in all of Europe. Yes! We say this about a lot of places we visit, but there is something about Prague that is truly magical. There is something artsy around every corner of this city.

Though ‘Prague in 2 days’ may sound extremely short and downright CRAZY, we got to explore most of the city’s highlights and still got to enjoy leisurely afternoons at various sidewalk eateries enjoying Beer & Goulash whilst people-watching.

The GOLDEN RULE here is to wake up early and enjoy the sights before the rest of the tourists wake up. If seeing a bride and groom in their wedding trousseau is considered lucky, you will get lucky for life here. We would have passed by at least 20-30 wedding photoshoots around Prague in 2 days!

Another fact you should keep in mind is that there is no such thing as non-touristy season in Prague, contrary to what many websites will tell you. The city will remain busy throughout the year and busier during summer.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT PRAGUE

Prague is a touristy destination year around. Peak tourism happens during summer months. As per the locals, the best time to enjoy Prague is early Spring in March. If you want to see the city turn a beautiful shade of orange, visit during Autumn in October. Christmas markets spring up mid November and the city turns into a winter wonderland. Clearly the reason travelers love Prague year around.

HOW TO GET AROUND PRAGUE

From Airport to the City Centre

There is an Airport Express bus, which runs between the airport and Hlavni Nadrazi- Prague’s main train station, located in the heart of the city. This takes about 35 minutes. Bus No: 100 connects Terminal 1 to Zlicin Metro Station & Bus No: 119 connects Terminal 1 to Nádraží Veleslavín Metro Station. You can buy tickets here or from the vending machine at the bus stop. Alternatively, you can book an Uber, which costs less than taxis.

Between Tourist Attractions

Majority of the attractions are in Prague 1 and easily walkable. Google Maps will come in handy here. In case you want to buy a sim at the airport, you can get it near the exit at Terminal 1. The basic package sold here is 5 GB valid for a month and costs approx. € 20. This sim can be used all over EU without any roaming charges (2020).

WHERE TO STAY IN PRAGUE

Majority of the tourist attractions are in and around the Old Town and Mala Strana. So find hotels/hostels close to these attractions so you do not spend more time in commute. 

We stayed at MOOo by the Castle in Mala Strana which is a 5 minutes walk from Prague Castle, St.Vitus Cathedral and a 10 min walk to Charles bridge.

HOW TO SEE PRAGUE IN 2 DAYS

Most of the main attractions around Prague gets super busy by 10 AM. Wake up early and you won’t be battling crowds on your getaway. We have curated a list of attractions as well as local experiences into the itinerary to make the most of Prague in 2 days!

DAY 1

CHARLES BRIDGE

The historic bridge that crosses the Vltava River, this bridge connects Prague castle to the Old Town. You can climb the towers on either sides of this bridge for some epic views.There are many iconic photo worthy spots on this bridge and the views while walking from Old Town to Mala Strana is legandary.

You can find the Instagram famous chimney cake-Trdelnk, in all forms and colors at the Mala Strana side of this bridge. The bridge also sets stage for some amazing street artists and musicians.

Tip: Visit the bridge before 9 AM to enjoy uninterrupted views. It remains really busy for the rest of the day.

LENNON WALL

Right adjacent to the Charles bridge, this wall is a graffiti paradise dedicated to ‘The Beatles’ singer John Lennon. It is interesting to see all the art and messages left behind by travelers from around the world on this wall.

Tip: You can rent/buy a marker from a vendor here for € 1 and leave your message on this very wall.

ASTRONOMICAL CLOCK & OLD TOWN SQUARE

Every hour, hundreds of tourists gather in front of the clock at the Old Town Square to watch the mechanical performance which was considered a wonder of the world during the medieval ages. The completion of each hour is marked by a procession of the 12 apostles.You can read more about its fascinating history here.

WENCESLAS SQUARE

The hub of night life in Prague, Wenceslas Square is a vibrant area where you will find clubs, restaurants & cafe’s, bars and also lot of international shopping brands. 

Tip: A good place to kick back and enjoy a cuppa and watch the bustle of the city go by.

 HOUSE OF BLACK MADONNA STAIRCASE

Visit this hidden gem solely for the “lightbulb staircase” that leads up from the Grand Orient Cafe to the Museum of Cubism. This is one of those rare places in Prague that isn’t busy.

THE DANCING HOUSE

You cannot visit Prague and miss out on this iconic building. A 20 minute walk from Old Town, the unique architecture of this building is worth a visit.

DOX CENTRE FOR CONTEMPORARY ART

Want to kick back and enjoy a book in a reading room on a wooden airship floating between two buildings? Named after Jonathan Swift’s classic ‘Gulliver’s Travels’, the Gulliver’s airship is an incredible and unique art installation. The rest of the museum showcases art in the form of stories, very much relevant in today’s world. Entrance fee is € 7 per person. The museum is closed on Tuesdays.

A PRAGUE EXPERIENCE- GHOST TOUR

Why not wrap up this gorgeous day with a fun Prague experience! This 1.5 hour walking tour takes you through the under belly of this city, where tourists rarely tread. Get lost in the fantastic tales spun by the awesome hosts Max & Friends.  The tour starts at 9 PM from the Old Town Square.

DAY 2

KLEMENTINUM COMPLEX

Daily guided tours of this complex starts at 10 AM and it will take you through Baroque library hall, Meridian hall and the Astronomical tower. The complex is situated right next to Charles bridge, in the heart of the old town and the astronomical tower presents a wonderful view of the historical centre of Prague.

LETNA PARK

One of the many gorgeous public parks in Prague that does not get overcrowded. You can enjoy amazing views of the Vltava river from here on a clear day. A perfect spot for a picnic.

ST VITUS CATHEDRAL

The churches in Europe are known for its amazing architecture. St Vitus is the largest and grandest church located within the Prague Castle Complex. This church has recorded history of a whooping 1000 years! You can climb up to the tower of this cathedral to enjoy amazing views of the city.

Tip: The stairs to the bell tower is quite steep and narrow. Also the climb is exhausting. You have other viewpoints in the city with equally good views that does not require steep climbs.

PRAGUE CASTLE LOOK OUT

The perfect place to enjoy a gorgeous sunset. All lookout points and towers in Prague have an entrance fee but this lookout point is ABSOLUTELY FREE and the view is as good.

A PRAGUE EXPERIENCE- BEER SPA

A nice and pricey way to end your amazing 2 days in Prague- also the birth place of Pilsner. Beer Spa does not mean dunking in a tub filled with Pilsner. Beer extracts such a yeast and hops are added to a tub filled with warm water and you can enjoy bottomless beer while in the tub.
